Joe Preston Gage passed peacefully at home after a seven year battle with lung cancer. Jerry had an incredible personality and ability to make anyone smile with his wit being second to none. After leaving OSU, she moved to Salem where she went to work for the State of Oregon Department of Revenue. She was employed in the Los Angeles School District as a school nurse.While attending a Salem High School Class Reunion she found that Dave Berger was also living in Los Angeles. Jean’s daughter, Denise, and granddaughters Ashley, Hannah and Rebecca, and retired nurse Ana Alverez all gave round the clock care as Jean grew ever more ill from the effects of dementia. Before their traveling ended, they were excited to be able to find ancestry dating back to before the Mayflower, as well as their ancestry to royalty. In 1974 Sam began working for the State of Oregon in the Worker’s Compensation Program. Esther left us to be with her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2018. The last few weeks of his life he was comforted by his family, especially by his daughter.John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joanna; his sons, Steven Phelps, Ronald Phelps; daughter, Tamara Inman; grandsons, Zachary Phelps, Joshua Phelps; granddaughter, Johanna Perales; and great grandson, Asher Phelps.Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on October 8, 2016 at Dallas Mortuary 287 SW Washington St. Dallas, OR. Another great love in Jordan’s life is anything “Disney.” Her first trip to Disneyland was when she was 6 months old and since then, she has been to Disneyland or Disney World a total of 9 times. A short 5 weeks later they married and began their lives together attending Open Bible Standard College in Eugene, OR. Jack was born to Jack William LaBox Sr. and Doris Mae Runner LaBox in Portland Oregon. It was that he met Joan Kuhn; who would become his wife on February 13, 1951. She modeled hard work, generosity, kindness, and loyalty, and expected the same in return. She was an accomplished business owner, a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Oregon Society of Tax Consultants and was also a longtime member of the Silverton High Alumni Association.He is survived by his Partner, Sandra Fichtner, sons, Christopher D. Culver of Eugene, Curtis D. Culver (Stephanie) of Harrisburg; grandsons, Austin Culver and Dylan Culver, and his three brothers, Mitchell Culver (Katie) of Silverton, Arthur Culver of Salem, and Paul Culver (Debra) of Mt. After a number of years of employment with Clackamas County Housing Authority she ended her working career in 1980. Further survived by his brother, sisters, other relatives and friends. Vern went back to college after completing his tour of duty. He was preceded in death by his father. Margie and her husband Vern were avid antique collectors. These trips also gave his mom some quiet time as well.His skills with fishing grew when he moved with his family to the Northwest. During this time he built many fences that currently exist in and around our community. She had such wonderful neighbors. The family would go on many fishing trips and visits to the coast. His reputation preceded him, and toward the end of his life, he had a full performance calendar at many centers throughout the Willamette Valley. Her six grandchildren greatly benefitted from her extravagant gift-giving, exuberant celebrations, and ever-present lip-stick smudges on their cheeks. She was one of 3 children born to Gustavus and Julie Anna Krause, a family of German descent. She loved her family, her friends, her dogs, and just about every one she met. He also sang in the Peoples Church choir, continuing long after Parkinson’s robbed him of his singing voice, because “they can’t kick you out of church choir!”Roger served the citizens of Salem as a police officer for 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He himself sponsored several others in AA programs and worked with a sponsor in a pro-gram of his own. They would also take their mule hitched to a wagon filled with produce to town to try to earn some extra wages for themselves. They met at Grace Baptist church where he was active in all the church activities. At the age of 96, she recited Bible verses beginning with every letter of the alphabet, a recorded performance that is still live on YouTube. Atsuyoshi (Yoshi) Ishii, beloved father, son, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly from a brain aneurysm on August 20, 2015 while returning from a vacation with his sons to visit family in Japan. They married in Raymond, Washington on September 24, 1949 and were married for 61 years before Alice’s passing in 2011.Ray began a career for the Salem Fire Department in 1950, where he worked 36 years before retiring in 1986. As a teenager during the depression, she worked for a boss who told her to put a hole in the scoop of ice cream when dishing it out. She was loved by all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed. She is a treasure: Loyal, lover of Jesus, prayer warrior, compassionate, nurturing, peace maker, role model for us all. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers when time allowed. Walter LeRoy Ellis, age 83, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Rosewood Nursing Home in Reno, Nevada. He was born in Ferndale, Washington on November 26, 1935 to Emmett ElRoy Ellis and Lucy Olga Frieda Brandenburg and was the only son and youngest of four children. She lived in Texas, New Jersey, Shreveport and, after retirement from the surgical intensive care unit as a nurse supervisor, moved to Oregon to be closer to her daughter and her family. With his knowledge of the disease and his strong faith in God, he was able to help prevent at least six people from committing suicide.Karl is survived by his wife, Lee, son John Granat, daughter-in-law Andrea, whom he loved like a daughter, two beloved grandsons, Wesley and Owen, father-in-law James McCollum, brother Kurt Granat (Maureen), sisters Virginia Mapes (Ron), Alana Mapes (Marshall), and Jody Jones (Jerry), as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Connie had lived in Salem over 50 years and retired from the Department of Defense after more than 20 years of service.Survivors include her husband, Michael C Sauer; children, Dorthy Jane Hernandez, Donita Gay Rodriguez, Curtis Dale Hibbert and Dianna Kay Davis; 2 step-children, Karen, Conrad and Scott Sauer; a brother, Donald Page; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Late in life, she wrote a brief history of her life called “Armchair Memories” in which she recounted her family’s history and the challenges and blessings God had brought her way over the years. He and Elsie were able to take their motor home and drive across country twice to visit family on the east coast and sight see along the way. He was born in Washington Township, Sauk County, Wisconsin where he lived on the family farm with his parents until moving to Salem, Oregon in 1986.Leonard enjoyed his early years growing up on the farm and taking walks quite often throughout his life.
